At times buying ingredients has been difficult, so I had to substitute the materials. So, I had to try different things. A few collectors recommend Ash as a drainage rock. It is alright to use for the short term if you are going to pot on a regular basis. But not long term and it causes to build up acid in the soil killing your plants.
Different types of sand are careful in using it. Make sure not to use any with salt content in it. Sand isn’t the best thing to use as is very fine whereas coarse sand has more pebbles and minerals in it. And comes from creeks and waterways. Don’t be too careful in using more coarse sand than soil. More is better as your plants will dry out quicker. Should dry out within 2 to 4 days.
Spraying is a must, keep your pests and disease. I use spectrum 200c but if you can’t get this any insecticide will do. But make sure you only spray it in the early morning or late afternoon as it can burn your plants because of the sun. even in shade. Every two weeks and surrounding the area where a plant is living. After doing two or three treatments then you can use soapy water from your washing machine to keep it under control. does not matter how much washing powder is in the water and does not matter what time of the day or how many times you do it. but do give them a rest by using soapy water. the soapy water is only to prevent them from coming back not to treat them.
The last thing is natural rainwater. As it cleans all the bad minerals out of your pots and gardens. Gives your plants a perky and vibrant color.
