Echinocereus Gentryi is a dangling cactus with short spines along the stems. The trumpet-shaped flowers are pale roses. Echinocereus Gentryi is sensitive to over-watering (rot prone) and needs good drainage. Keep drier and cool in winter. In the summer it needs an airy location in bright sun; keep it well watered when it’s hot. The soil should be a very porous standard cactus mix. This plant needs plenty of space for its roots, repotting should be done every other year or when it has outgrown its pot. Use pot with good drainage. The Echinocereus scheeri subsp. gentryi tolerates bright situations which encourage flowering–, but is likely to suffer from sun scorch or stunted growth if over-exposed to direct light during the hottest part of the day in summer. It may tolerate filtered sunlight or afternoon shade.

Also known as Echinocereus scheeri subsp. gentryi, Echinocereus scheeri var gentryi.

Watch your Echinocereus Gentryi for the first couple of months to check if they are happy where they are.

Echinocereus requires more sunlight if it looks like growing out of shape. Burning is a common fact when having new plants. Best to gradually give them more sunlight as the weeks go by. Instead of placing it in straight sunlight.

Allow them to sit for a week before giving them a good drink. Depending on the season. Make sure they dry out completely before watering again. Don’t forget to give them a spray with soapy water to keep the bugs off them. And provide very good ventilation.
