Very easy to grow, it needs light shade to full sun (but tolerates shadow). Ideal for small shallow pots. Grown in a 70 mm size pot.

Huernia Hystrix is a multiplying plant that spreads and grows not very high, (about 7 cm) The erect stems branch at the base to form a clump and also flowers in autumn. Rest them in winter with less watering and lots of filtered sunlight.  Giving huernia Hystrix a drink in their growing season is required. Pot in cactus mixed with extra perlite or pumice. A gritty, very free-draining compost is suitable, and clay pots help the plants to dry out between watering. Re-pot every 2 years.

Also as known as Stapelia hystrix

Watch your Huernia Hystrix for the first couple of months to check if they are happy where they are.

The Huernia requires more sunlight if it looks like growing out of shape. Burning is a common fact when having new plants. Best to gradually give them more sunlight as the weeks go by. Instead of placing it in straight sunlight.

Allow them to sit for a week before giving them a good drink. Depending on the season. Make sure they dry out completely before watering again. Don’t forget to give them a spray with soapy water to keep the bugs off them. And provide very good ventilation.
